David Beckham breaks silence on son Brooklyn’s allegations amid family rift

David Beckham has responded publicly for the first time to son Brooklyn Beckham’s claims that his parents tried to control his life and strained his relationship with wife Nicola Peltz. The football legend said children are allowed to make mistakes, emphasising learning and growth, even as tensions within the Beckham family continue to draw attention.

David Beckham has addressed the growing public fallout with his eldest son, Brooklyn Beckham, after Brooklyn accused his parents of interfering in his personal life and marriage to actress Nicola Peltz. Speaking to CNBC, David offered a measured response, stating that children are allowed to make mistakes and must be given the freedom to learn from them.

Brooklyn’s comments came through a strongly worded social media post on January 20, in which the 26-year-old alleged that his mother, Victoria Beckham, abruptly withdrew from designing Nicola Peltz’s wedding gown just days before their April 2022 ceremony. According to Brooklyn, the last-minute decision caused distress and forced Nicola to urgently find another dress.

Brooklyn also revisited a painful wedding-day moment, recalling how singer Marc Anthony invited him on stage for what he believed would be his first dance with Nicola, only to find his mother waiting to dance with him instead. He described feeling uncomfortable and humiliated by the incident, saying it left a lasting impact on both him and Nicola. The couple later renewed their vows in 2025, reportedly to replace the memory with a happier experience.

Adding to the renewed scrutiny, a video from the 2023 red carpet premiere of Netflix’sBeckhamdocumentary resurfaced online. The clip appears to show awkward interactions between Brooklyn, Nicola and Victoria Beckham, fuelling speculation about ongoing family tensions.

Brooklyn has not publicly responded to David Beckham’s remarks so far, leaving questions about whether reconciliation is on the horizon for the high-profile family.
