Chartered Aircraft ‘Crash’ in Rourkela: Medical Team on Site for Injured Passengers & Crew

A specialised medical team from Bhubaneswar reached Rourkela on Sunday to assess injuries sustained by passengers and crew in a charter aircraft crash-landing on Saturday. Officials said airlifting the injured for advanced treatment may be considered based on the evaluation.

The single-engine aircraft, carrying four passengers and two crew members, made an emergency landing near Rourkela after the pilot issued a Mayday call. All six occupants were reported stable. Transport Secretary Usha Padhee visited the site to coordinate response measures.

Medical teams conducted on-site assessments, with an air ambulance on standby for potential transfer. Local residents were the first to rescue the occupants amid fuel or oil leakage from the aircraft.

Investigations are underway by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to determine the cause, including possible engine or technical issues. Pilots are expected to be questioned as part of the inquiry. Relatives of two passengers plan to airlift them to Mumbai for advanced care.
