Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has begun the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations from today across the country. Alongside the start of exams, CBSE has issued a detailed clarification regarding the two-board-exam system introduced for Class 10 students.
According to the board, the first phase of examinations begins today, and only those students who appear in the initial attempt will be eligible for the second board exam. The second exam will allow students to improve their marks in up to three subjects.
Students can opt for improvement in any three subjects from Science, Mathematics, Social Science, and language papers. However, students must appear in at least three papers during the first phase to qualify for the improvement opportunity. Those who skip the first exam will not be allowed to take the second and will fall under the “Essential Repeat” category, requiring them to reappear next year.
As per the official schedule, Class 10 students will appear for Mathematics (both Standard and Basic) on the first day, while Class 12 students will take examinations in subjects like Biotechnology and Entrepreneurship.
CBSE has stated that the second exam is aimed at helping students enhance their performance and academic outcomes. Students who pass but wish to improve their scores can take the second exam in up to three subjects. However, those absent in the first attempt will not be eligible for the improvement exam.
If a student receives a compartment result in the first exam, they may appear in the second exam under the compartment category. CBSE has issued a formal notification along with detailed guidelines regarding the implementation of this new examination structure.
