Bodies of Two Brothers Recovered from Birupa River in Cuttack; Police Launch Investigation

Two bodies identified as brothers Debasish Sahoo and Subhasish Sahoo were recovered from the Birupa River near the Birupa Barrage in Choudwar, Cuttack district. Fire Services personnel retrieved the bodies after locals spotted them floating. Police have launched an investigation to determine whether the deaths were due to suicide or foul play.

A tragic incident has come to light in Odisha’s Cuttack district after the bodies of two brothers were recovered from the Birupa River near the Birupa Barrage in Choudwar on Thursday.

According to reports, local residents first noticed two bodies floating in the river near the barrage and immediately alerted the Choudwar police. Acting on the information, police personnel along with Fire Services teams rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies from the water.

Initially, the identities of the deceased were unknown. However, during preliminary inquiries, locals identified the victims asDebasish Sahoo and Subhasish Sahoo, residents of Mandapada village. The two were reportedly brothers.

Residents stated that the brothers had left their village nearly a year ago, and their whereabouts had remained unknown since then.

In another development, amotorcycle believed to belong to the brothers was reportedly found parked near the Birupa River two days ago. When no one came forward to claim the vehicle, local police took it into custody.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of death. Police are currently investigating whether the incident is a case ofsuicide or if any foul play was involved.

Some locals claimed that the bodies appeared to be positioned in a way suggesting the two may have been holding on to each other, which has led to speculation that they might have died by suicide. However, officials have refrained from drawing any conclusions at this stage.
