The grand finale ofBigg Boss Tamil 9will air on Vijay Television and JioHotstar on January 18 from 6 pm. The season, which began on October 5, was hosted by Vijay Sethupathi for the second consecutive year.
As the countdown begins, the reality show heads into its finale after a turbulent season marked by intense drama, controversial moments and frequent clashes. Four finalists have made it to the final stage, competing for the coveted trophy and a cash prize of Rs 32 lakh. The season opened with 20 contestants, followed by the entry of four wildcard participants toward the end of the first month. Many of the contestants came with strong social media followings, reflecting the evolving landscape of reality television.
The ninth season earned notoriety for a series of ugly fights that often crossed the line. Despite repeated warnings from host Vijay Sethupathi to maintain dignity and decorum, confrontations continued to escalate. In an unprecedented move, the season witnessed the issuance of two red cards — the first inBigg Bosshistory across all languages — to Kamrudin and Parvathy for violent and objectionable behaviour. Both were evicted on Day 90, just two weeks ahead of the finale.
The pressure of the competition was also evident when contestant Nandhini exited the show within five days after suffering an emotional breakdown, underscoring the mental strain of surviving in a format where only a fraction of daily footage makes it to the one-hour broadcast.
Traditionally,Bigg Boss Tamilfeatures five finalists with a mid-week eviction during finale week. However, this season has only four finalists: Sabarinathan, Aurora Sinclair, Divya Ganesan and Vikkals Vikram. Last week, strong contender Gana Vinoth opted for the cash box worth Rs 18 lakh, an amount that will be deducted from the winner’s original prize money of Rs 50 lakh.
Sabarinathanis a television actor and Vijay TV regular, admired for his calm and composed demeanour. Though some accused him of playing it safe, he won audience appreciation for supporting fellow contestant Sandra during a panic attack, even forfeiting a task to help her and urging others not to waste their Ticket to Finale opportunity.
Aurora Sinclair, a social media influencer and model, saw a dramatic turnaround in her journey. Initially criticised for being distracted from the game, she gained momentum after the first 50 days, impressing both the host and viewers with her empathy, clarity and decision-making. She became the first finalist by winning the Ticket to Finale.
Divya Ganesan, also a Vijay TV familiar face, is the only wildcard contestant to reach the finals. Known for her outspoken and fearless approach, she earned widespread support for standing up to Parvathy during a marathon car task that lasted over 10 hours. Her journey resonated with viewers for its emphasis on boundaries, self-respect and honesty in relationships.
Vikkals Vikram, a stand-up comedian and digital content creator, largely stood out for his sensible conduct amid frequent conflicts. While he occasionally lost his temper, he was quick to acknowledge his mistakes and apologise. During finale week, Vikram opened up about an emotional breakdown, admitting fears of losing sight of his personal values.
The grand finale promises performances by evicted contestants and a dramatic conclusion, as one of the four finalists is crowned the winner ofBigg Boss Tamil 9.
