The district administration of Bhadrak on Friday published a draft notification proposing the formation of two new Notified Area Councils (NACs)—Dhamnagar (Dhusuri) and Tihidi. The proposal outlines the demarcation of boundaries and reservation of seats for the newly constituted urban local bodies.
The move is seen as a significant step towards strengthening urban local governance in the district, particularly in the run-up to the upcoming municipal elections.
According to the draft notification, both Dhusuri and Tihidi NACs will be divided into 14 wards each for the purpose of electing councillors. Of the total 14 seats in each NAC, eight will be reserved as per the provisions of the Odisha Municipal Act, 1950, while the remaining six seats will be unreserved.
Official projections place the population of Dhusuri NAC at 10,349, while Tihidi NAC is expected to have a population of 13,805. The notification states that the ward division and reservation of seats have been carried out under the powers conferred by the relevant provisions of the Odisha Municipal Act, 1950.
To ensure transparency and public participation, the district administration has invited objections and suggestions from residents regarding the draft proposal. Members of the public may submit their representations within 10 days from the date of publication of the notification. Authorities have clarified that submissions received after the stipulated period will not be considered.
