An allegation of a group attack on a woman Block Development Officer (BDO) has emerged from Rajnagar block in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, triggering concern over the safety of field-level government officials.
According to sources, the incident took place around noon on Friday when a local leader, accompanied by more than 30 supporters, allegedly entered the office chamber of Rajnagar BDO Tilottama Prusty. The group reportedly surrounded the officer and demanded clearance of bills and sanction of works which were allegedly not in accordance with rules.
Sources said the BDO informed the group that bills could only be cleared as per government norms and strictly based on the actual work completed. This reportedly led to a heated exchange, after which the situation escalated.
It was further alleged that the group issued threats to the officer and warned of serious consequences if their demands were not met. One individual reportedly attempted to assault the BDO by lifting a laptop. The entire incident is said to have been captured by CCTV cameras installed inside the office premises.
Following the incident, the BDO reportedly informed the Kendrapara district collector. However, no official confirmation regarding police action or administrative measures had been issued at the time of reporting.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among administrative circles, especially regarding the safety and working environment of women officers and field-level officials posted in rural areas.
