A gruesome murder stemming from a long-standing family dispute has been reported from Susabanali village under Jharbada panchayat in the Palalhada police station area ofAngul districton Saturday.
According to police, awoman was brutally killed, allegedly hacked with an axe and later crushed with stones. A woman and her son have been arrested in connection with the crime.
The deceased has been identified as Jan Munda, a resident of the same village. According to sources, she had left her house on Monday morning for work, as per her daily routine, but did not return home. Concerned family members later began searching for her.
Her body was subsequently recovered from a nearby leaf shed, triggering shock and tension in the village. A preliminary examination revealed deep injuries on her neck, while her face had been smashed with stones, indicating a violent and premeditated attack.
During the course of investigation, Palalhada police identified the victim’s relatives as suspects. The accused were laterarrested and interrogated. Police said the accused have been identified as Jema Suri and her son Dulabh Suri, the sister-in-law and nephew of the deceased.

“The victim’s sister-in-law and nephew were under suspicion. During interrogation, they confessed to having killed the woman due to a long-standing personal rivalry,” said SDPO Palalhada Kailash Chandra Sethi.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway to ascertain all circumstances leading to themurder.
