Uttar Pradesh Police have solved the mystery surrounding the death of Jitendra Yadav, who was found hanging in his rented house in Bareilly on January 26. What was initially registered as a suicide case has now been converted into a murder investigation, leading to the arrest of his wife and her parents.
According to police officials, forensic and post-mortem findings confirmed that Jitendra was strangled to death before his body was suspended to simulate suicide. The injuries on his neck were consistent with manual pressure, ruling out death by hanging.
Investigators revealed that Jitendra had married Jyoti on November 25 last year after a nine-year relationship. Within two months of marriage, disputes allegedly arose after Jyoti began pressuring him to sell ancestral property to purchase a house and car in her name. Police said threats of false dowry cases further strained relations.
On the day of the incident, an argument reportedly broke out over Jitendra’s loss of ₹20,000 in online gambling. During questioning, Jyoti allegedly confessed that she pressed his neck during the altercation, causing his death. She then contacted her parents, who allegedly helped stage the scene as a suicide by hanging the body with a muffler from a ventilator.
Police said call records, location data, forensic inconsistencies, and neighbourhood CCTV footage corroborated the sequence of events. Jyoti, along with her father Kalicharan and mother Chameli, was arrested on January 31 near Delapeer–Trishul Tiraha road in Bareilly. All three were produced before a court and sent to judicial custody.
