Claims have emerged that US forces used a previously unseen, powerful weapon during a raid in Venezuela aimed at capturing President Nicolás Maduro. An eyewitness account, shared on X by the White House press secretary, described Venezuelan troops being incapacitated by what appeared to be intense sound waves, alongside radar disruptions and drone activity.
The guard recounted that only a small US unit—around 20 troops with eight helicopters—quickly dominated the area. Venezuelan personnel reportedly suffered nosebleeds, vomiting, and loss of mobility after the alleged device was deployed. He described the encounter as “not a battle, but a slaughter,” highlighting the technological edge of the US forces.
The White House has not verified the claims. Venezuela’s Interior Ministry reported around 100 security personnel killed in the January 3 operation, though any connection to the alleged weapon remains unconfirmed. Experts note the account resembles effects associated with directed energy weapons, which can incapacitate targets using focused energy such as microwaves or lasers.
The incident has drawn attention across Latin America, with the guard warning of the US’s overwhelming capabilities and the broader regional impact of the operation.
