Australian batter Travis Head has rejected criticism suggesting that Australia did not prioritise T20 cricket after their early exit from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Australia were eliminated in the group stage despite wins over Ireland and Oman, suffering crucial defeats against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka that ended their hopes of reaching the Super Eights.
Speaking in Adelaide, Head stressed that the squad maintains “100 per cent commitment” across all formats and dismissed the notion that Test cricket holds greater importance within the team. He acknowledged that tournament cricket presents unique challenges and that Australia simply “weren’t good enough at the right times.”
Head also highlighted the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket compared to the longer format, explaining that individual brilliance on a given day can significantly influence outcomes. The left-hander will now shift focus to domestic cricket with South Australia in the Sheffield Shield before heading to the Indian Premier League.
