Three people were killed in a tragic road accident in Bhubaneswar after a sand-laden Hyva truck collided with a motorcycle at Anantapur under the Pahala Police Station limits late on Friday night.
According to preliminary police reports, the accident occurred at around 12:30 am when the truck reportedly hit the motorcycle from behind. The heavy vehicle then ran over the riders, killing all three of them on the spot.
After receiving information about the incident, police personnel rushed to the accident site, recovered the bodies and sent them to Capital Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Authorities said the identities of the victims have not yet been established. Investigators are trying to identify them using the registration details of the motorcycle. Initial suspicion suggests that the bike involved in the accident may have been stolen.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Hyva truck fled immediately after the collision. Police are attempting to contact the truck owner while also examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to track the vehicle and identify the driver.
Officials have also raised questions about how three people were travelling on a single motorcycle at the time of the accident. A detailed investigation into the incident is currently underway.
