Shahid Kapoor reunites with director Vishal Bhardwaj for their fourth collaboration in O’Romeo, following hits like Kaminey, Haider, and Rangoon. The trailer, released online on Wednesday, offers a glimpse of Kapoor as a gangster navigating the dangerous streets of Mumbai. Triptii Dimri appears as a distressed character whose path crosses with Kapoor, hinting at an unexpected romance amidst the crime drama.
The three-minute trailer is packed with action sequences, intense dialogues, and signature Vishal Bhardwaj music, maintaining his trademark dark and gripping style. Avinash Tiwary features as the main antagonist, while Disha Patani appears in a dance number. Veteran actors Nana Patekar and Farida Jalal play pivotal roles, and Vikrant Massey and Tamannaah Bhatia are also part of the ensemble, though their characters remain under wraps.
Reports suggest O’Romeo draws inspiration from real-life gangster Hussain Ustara, as chronicled in Mafia Queens of Mumbai by Hussain Zaidi, adding authenticity and intrigue to the narrative. After focusing on streaming platforms since 2018, including Netflix’s Khufiya and SonyLIV’s Charlie Chopra & the Mystery of Solang Valley, Bhardwaj is back with a theatrical release.
Shahid Kapoor’s last theatrical success was Kabir Singh in 2019. With O’Romeo, he returns to the big screen aiming to combine intense action with a gripping crime story. The film is set to release on February 13, competing with Bejoy Nambiar’s survival thriller Tu Yaa Main.
