Tragedy struck the Kalinga Gananatya troupe hours after the inauguration of its much-anticipated Jatra (folk theatre) performance at Chheligada area inGajapatidistrict on Friday.
As per reports, the opera was abruptly cancelled on its very first day following the sudden death of senior and popular comedian Budhiana, leaving the audience, artistes and the entire cultural fraternity in deep shock.
The inaugural show of Kalinga Gananatya was being staged at Chheligada with great enthusiasm. Hundreds of spectators had gathered to witness the opening night performance. However, moments after the show commenced, Budhiana, who was performing on stage, suddenly complained of severe discomfort and collapsed, triggering panic among fellow artistes and organisers.
He was immediately rushed to the Chheligada hospital for emergency medical attention. As his condition continued to worsen, doctors referred him to the Chandragiri Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite all efforts by the medical team, Budhiana was declared dead upon arrival at the Chandragiri Hospital.
