Venezuelan opposition leader andNobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machadorevealed on Monday (January 5, 2026) that she has not been in contact withU.S. President Donald Trumpsince October 2025. Machado, a prominent critic of the Venezuelan government, has frequently engaged with international leaders to garner support for democratic reforms and human rights in her country.

The Nobel laureate had recently left Venezuela to travel toNorwayto receive the prestigious award, marking a high-profile recognition of her efforts for peace and democracy. Since departing the country last month, Machado has remained abroad and has not returned to Venezuela, raising questions about her immediate political activities and engagement with international allies.

While she has maintained an active presence in global discussions on Venezuela’s political situation, Machado’s disclosure underscores the evolving dynamics of her interactions with U.S. leadership. Observers note that her absence from the country coincides with ongoing political tensions in Venezuela, where the opposition continues to navigate challenges in advocating for democratic reforms.

The announcement is likely to draw attention to the role of Venezuelan opposition leaders in shaping international support and diplomatic engagement, as well as the impact of Machado’s Nobel recognition on her political influence. Analysts suggest that while direct communication with Trump has paused, Machado’s international visibility and advocacy remain significant in the broader context of Venezuela’s political landscape.
