Dubai, UAE / Bhubaneswar, Odisha:Concern is rising among the Odia diaspora in the UAE after indications emerged that IndiGo might discontinue its directDubai–Bhubaneswar flightfrom March 30, 2026. The development was noticed on IndiGo’s official website, which has also stopped accepting bookings beyond the mentioned date.
In response,Odisha Samaj UAEhas written to the Chief Secretary, urging timely government intervention to retain the route. The organisation recalled a similar situation in September 2025, when the flight’s discontinuation was averted through proactive action by senior state officials.
The letter also highlighted the reduced connectivity between Odisha and the UAE following the discontinuation of the direct Abu Dhabi–Bhubaneswar flight. The Dubai–Bhubaneswar route, operating thrice weekly, serves as a vital lifeline for over40,000 Odiasin the UAE, supporting family visits, tourism, and business exchanges.
Officials and the community warned that removing the route could adversely impact diaspora relations, tourism, and investment opportunities, urging the Odisha government to take action to safeguard this important link.
