The recent India–United States trade agreement has created fresh growth opportunities for Odisha’s textile and apparel sector. With the US easing import duties, exports of Odisha-made handloom products and ready-made garments are expected to become more competitive in international markets.
Official sources said the move could significantly enhance income prospects for weavers and handloom artisans across the State. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi highlighted the development on social media, stating that Odisha’s traditional attire is poised to emerge as a new global trend.
Lower tariffs are expected to improve access for iconic Odisha textiles such as Sambalpuri handloom to the American market, strengthening the State’s footprint in global fashion and trade. The Chief Minister also emphasised that the agreement would help transform Odisha’s textile ecosystem from “field to fashion,” empowering local producers and textile hubs while promoting traditional craftsmanship worldwide.
