In a major crackdown on the illegal sale of prohibited medicinal drugs, the Drugs Squad and Bhadrak Police on Wednesday seized 840 bottles of banned cough syrup from Basudebpur market in Odisha’s Bhadrak district. The seizure was made during a joint raid conducted at a local medical shop, where the contraband was allegedly being sold illegally.According to officials, the seized cough syrup was stored in seven boxes, with each box containing 120 bottles, taking the total count to 840 bottles. The total value of the seized consignment has been estimated at over ₹1.5 lakh.Repeated incidents of illegal cough syrup sales across the state have once again highlighted the need for stricter monitoring, regular inspections of medical shops and strong enforcement to curb the misuse of medicinal drugs.
