New Delhi: The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) on Wednesday released its monthly drug alert for December, declaring 167 drug samples tested by central and state drug laboratories as Not of Standard Quality (NSQ).
According to the alert, 74 drug samples were identified as NSQ by Central Drugs Laboratories, while 93 samples were flagged by State Drugs Testing Laboratories. The identification is based on failure in one or more specified quality parameters of the tested batch and does not indicate issues with other batches of the same drugs available in the market.
The report also highlighted instances of spurious drugs: four samples from Ghaziabad, one from Ahmedabad, one from Bihar, and one from Maharashtra. These were produced by unauthorized manufacturers using brand names belonging to other companies. The matter is under investigation, and actions will be taken in accordance with legal provisions.
CDSCO emphasized that these steps are part of routine regulatory surveillance conducted jointly with state authorities to ensure unsafe or substandard medicines are swiftly identified and removed from the market.
