Teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi shatters records at U-19 World Cup

Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name in history by emerging as the youngest cricketer to register a fifty-plus score in a Men’s Under-19 World Cup game.

India’s teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi once again dazzled on the world stage with a scintillating performance in the U-19 World Cup 2026 match against Bangladesh on Saturday. The 14-year-old southpaw struck a superb 72 off 67 deliveries, peppering the innings with six fours and three sixes to give India a flying start with his fearless strokeplay.

Living up to his attacking reputation, Suryavanshi brought up his half-century in just 30 balls. The knock saw him script history as the youngest player to score a fifty-plus innings in a Men’s U-19 World Cup encounter.

At just 14 years and 296 days, he bettered the previous record held by Afghanistan’s Shahidullah Kamal, who achieved the feat at 15 years and 19 days. Pakistan great Babar Azam, who had scored a fifty in the 2010 edition against West Indies, now occupies the third spot on the list.

Suryavanshi’s meteoric rise is also reflected in his overall numbers. With 1,047 runs from only 20 Youth ODIs, he has gone past Virat Kohli’s tally of 978 runs from 28 matches at the same level.

Among Indian batters, only former U-19 captain Vijay Zol, with 1,404 runs in 36 games, stands ahead of him, while Bangladesh’s Najmul Hossain Shanto continues to top the all-time Youth ODI run charts with 1,820 runs.
