Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms Collect Over Rs 500 Crore in Penalties

Tata Power-led power distribution companies in Odisha have collected over Rs 500 crore in penalties for delayed bill payments, power theft, meter tampering and other violations, Deputy Chief Minister K. V. Singh Deo informed the Assembly.

Tata Power-led electricity distribution companies (discoms) in Odisha have collected more than Rs 500 crore in penalties from consumers across the state, Deputy Chief Minister (Energy)K. V. Singh Deoinformed the Assembly on Wednesday.

The penalties were imposed for violations such as delayed electricity bill payments, power theft, meter tampering, and other irregularities. The government consolidated penalty data from varying timeframes across the four distribution utilities operating in the state.

Data forTPCODLandTPWODLis available from the financial year 2023-24 onwards, while figures forTPNODLandTPSODLhave been compiled from April 2021.

TPCODL Collections

TPCODL, which supplies power to central Odisha, collected Rs 167.7 crore in penalties between 2023-24 and January 2026.

  • Rs 52.7 crore in 2023-24

  • Rs 60.18 crore in 2024-25

  • Rs 54.82 crore in 2025-26 (up to January 2026)

TPNODL Collections

TPNODL, operating in northern Odisha, mobilised Rs 155.6 crore in penalties from April 1, 2021, to January 31, 2026. Domestic consumers accounted for the highest share at Rs 123.9 crore.

Other segments contributed:

  • Commercial consumers: Rs 25.4 crore

  • Agriculture consumers: Rs 3.9 crore

  • Industrial consumers: Rs 2.5 crore

TPWODL Collections

TPWODL, responsible for western Odisha, collected Rs 106.96 crore between 2023-24 and January 2026.

  • Rs 36.2 crore in 2023-24

  • Rs 39.76 crore in 2024-25

  • Rs 31 crore in 2025-26 (up to January 2026)

The penalty collections highlight intensified enforcement against electricity-related violations and efforts to improve revenue realisation and curb power theft across Odisha.
