Border 2 races ahead in advance bookings, beats Jaat with 48 hours to go

Sunny Deol’s Border 2 has registered strong advance bookings ahead of its January 23 release, overtaking Jaat and eyeing a massive opening amid Republic Day weekend buzz.

With just 48 hours remaining before its theatrical release on January 23, 2026,Border 2is showing impressive momentum at the Indian box office through its advance booking performance. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film has collected Rs 2.63 crore in advance gross as of January 20, excluding blocked seats. This figure has already surpassed the first-day advance booking numbers of Sunny Deol’s recent releaseJaat, which stood at Rs 2.37 crore.

Trade experts believe the numbers are poised to climb further. Blocked seat bookings are reportedly nearing the Rs 6 crore mark, signalling strong distributor and exhibitor confidence. With the Republic Day holiday approaching, a sharp spike in last-minute bookings is expected across multiplexes and single screens.

While comparisons withGadar 2—which created history with Rs 17.6 crore in advance bookings—may be premature, industry observers note thatBorder 2is currently running with fewer shows. At present, the film has around 8,371 shows scheduled nationwide, leaving room for screen additions as demand continues to rise.

Box office analysts suggest that if the current trend holds,Border 2could challenge a Day 1 net opening in the range of Rs 35–40 crore, putting it among the biggest openers in recent years. The extended Republic Day weekend is expected to play a crucial role in sustaining momentum beyond opening day.

Directed by Anurag Singh,Border 2is the official sequel to the 1997 cult classicBorder. The film has received a U/A 13+ certification from the CBFC without any cuts. Set against the backdrop of another key 1971 battle, the film promises a large-scale war spectacle featuring ground, air, and naval combat sequences.

The promotional campaign has positionedBorder 2as India’s biggest multi-front war epic, with high-end technical execution, including visuals of the INS Vikrant and aerial warfare. Nostalgia has also been a key driver, especially with the revived version of the iconic songSandese Aate Haigaining traction on social media.

Sunny Deol reprises his legendary role in the sequel, joined by Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty. The ensemble cast, particularly Diljit Dosanjh’s inclusion, has further boosted interest, especially in North India.

As advance bookings continue to rise, all eyes are now on whetherBorder 2can convert its strong pre-release buzz into record-breaking opening day numbers.
