A suicide blast near a major railway station in Moscow early Tuesday left one police officer dead and two others injured, according to officials. The attacker approached a traffic police vehicle parked near Savyolovsky Train Station shortly after midnight and detonated an explosive device, killing himself and the officer instantly.
Two injured officers were rushed to hospital for treatment. Authorities have not yet identified the assailant or revealed any motive behind the attack. Russia’s federal investigative authorities, including the Investigative Committee of Russia, have launched a probe into the incident.
The explosion occurred on the same day marking the fourth anniversary of President Vladimir Putin’s decision to launch military operations in Ukraine, though officials have not confirmed any connection. Security has been heightened in the area as investigations continue.
