Proposed alignment of Bhubaneswar Capital Region Ring Road project in Odisha

Strong Bidder Interest for Bhubaneswar Capital Region Ring Road; NHAI to Award Contracts by March

The NHAI has received strong interest from construction firms for the 111-km Bhubaneswar Capital Region Ring Road project, with multiple bids for all three packages. Contracts are expected to be awarded by March 2026.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has received an enthusiastic response from construction companies for the development of the 111-kilometre, six-lane access-controlled Greenfield Capital Region Ring Road, also known as the Bhubaneswar Bypass, in Odisha.

The ambitious infrastructure project has been divided into three execution packages, each of which has attracted significant competition. According to official information, Package-I received 23 bids, Package-II drew 25 bids, while Package-III saw participation from 16 bidders. The strong bidding response reflects robust industry confidence in the project.

NHAI is expected to finalise and award the contracts by March 2026. Construction work is likely to commence shortly thereafter, with the entire project targeted for completion within two and a half years.

Approved by the Union Cabinet, the Capital Region Ring Road will be implemented under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM). The 111-kilometre corridor will connect Rameshwar to Tangi, forming a high-capacity ring road around the Bhubaneswar–Cuttack capital region. The total estimated project cost is ₹8,307.74 crore.

Preparatory activities for the project are nearing completion. Nearly 96 percent of land acquisition has already been completed, and the project has secured all mandatory forest, wildlife, and environmental clearances, clearing the path for smooth execution.

Once operational, the access-controlled ring road is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Khordha by diverting through-traffic away from congested urban areas. The project will enhance regional connectivity, reduce travel time, and bring down logistics costs.

In addition to improving transportation efficiency, the project is expected to generate substantial employment during both construction and operational phases. Authorities believe the corridor will play a crucial role in supporting long-term economic growth while promoting safer, faster, and more efficient movement across the capital region.
