Singapore Police Tell Court Zubeen Garg Was Intoxicated, Refused Life Jacket

Singapore police told a coroner’s court that Zubeen Garg drowned off Lazarus Island last September after entering the water heavily intoxicated and without a life jacket. Investigators have ruled out any foul play in the incident.

Singapore police told a coroner’s court that Indian singer Zubeen Garg, 52, drowned off Lazarus Island in September 2025 after swimming alone without a life jacket while heavily intoxicated, with investigators ruling out foul play.

Garg had initially worn a life jacket but removed it, and later declined a second one before entering the water. Witnesses saw him struggling to swim back to the yacht, and despite rescue attempts and CPR, he was pronounced dead. Toxicology tests revealed a blood alcohol level of 333 mg/100 ml, well above Singapore’s legal limit, and a partially consumed bottle of whisky was found in his hotel room.
