Baripada:Simlipal’s crocodile census report is out, and the number of crocodiles has increased to 84, three more than last year. The West Deo River has the maximum number of crocodiles, with 60 spotted.
The Similipal Tiger Conservation Project Authority has informed about this after the three-day crocodile census continued from January 6 to 8 and now the report is out.
A total of 16 ranges of North and South Similipal were counted for crocodile census. More than 100 staff members were deployed in 30 teams including Forest rangers, foresters and staff for the crocodile count in each range.
More crocodiles of the Gomuha or Magar species are seen in Similipal and surrounding areas. There are 78 crocodiles in Similipal South Forest, while there is one in North Forest and 5 in Ramteerth. The maximum number of crocodiles is 60 in the West Deo River.
