A meeting between senior BJP leader Dilip Ray and Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has once again stirred political speculation in the state, particularly in the run-up to the Rajya Sabha elections. The interaction, which reportedly lasted for over half an hour, has drawn attention as it is not the first such meeting between the two in recent times.
Addressing the media, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan clarified that the meeting was personal in nature, citing a family relationship with Dilip Ray. He also confirmed that Ray had met his father, former Governor Bishwabhusan Harichandan, to enquire about his health.
“There was no discussion on any issue. We share a personal relationship, and he had come to visit our family. He also met my father to enquire about his health,” the minister said, while declining to comment further on political implications.
The meeting comes at a crucial juncture in Odisha’s political landscape, with Rajya Sabha elections approaching. According to current political equations, two Rajya Sabha seats are expected to go to the BJP, one to the BJD, while one seat remains vacant. Political circles are rife with speculation that Dilip Ray could emerge as a contender for the vacant seat.
Meanwhile, the BJP has expressed confidence about securing the fourth Rajya Sabha seat as well. Although no official announcement has been made, the renewed interactions among senior leaders have intensified discussions around candidate selection and electoral strategy ahead of the polls.
