Reckless Driving Kills 30 as Passenger Truck Crashes in Northern Nigeria

At least 30 people were killed and several others injured after a passenger truck lost control and crashed in Kano State, northern Nigeria. Authorities blamed reckless driving and renewed calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws amid frequent fatal road accidents in the country.

A truck carrying passengers and goods crashed early Sunday in Kwanar Barde town, located in Kano State’s Gezawa local government area, killing at least 30 people and injuring several others. According to the Kano governor’s office, the vehicle lost control while travelling toward Gujungu town, with reckless driving cited as the primary cause of the accident.

Those injured, many of them critically, are receiving treatment in multiple hospitals across the state. Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf described the incident as heartbreaking and a major loss to both the affected families and the wider Kano community. The tragedy has once again highlighted Nigeria’s persistent road safety challenges, often linked to poor infrastructure and weak enforcement of traffic regulations.
