Actor Ranvir Shorey, who returns to the screen withBindiya Ke Bahubali Season 2, has weighed in on the ongoing debate around long working hours in the entertainment industry and demands for an eight-hour workday. In an exclusive interaction, the actor reflected on how work culture has evolved in film and television over the years.
Speaking toIndia Today, Shorey said that the production ofBindiya Ke Bahubalidid not follow an eight-hour shift model. He recalled that when he began his career, eight-hour workdays were the norm, while 12-hour shifts were reserved for exceptional circumstances. According to him, the daily soap industry normalised extended work hours, which later spilled over into films as well.
Calling excessively long schedules unhealthy and counterproductive, Shorey said that continuous 12–15 hour workdays over months can take a serious toll on both health and performance. However, he stopped short of endorsing an eight-hour cap, noting that filmmaking requires flexibility and that rigid limits could affect creative output.
He emphasised that films and television function differently, with films involving long stretches of writing and post-production, and intense but shorter shooting schedules. Ultimately, Shorey believes producers should decide work hours responsibly, adding that any producer focused on quality will ensure humane schedules.
Commenting briefly on A.R. Rahman’s recent remarks about not getting enough work in Hindi cinema, Shorey said he had heard a different perspective. “I have heard he charges a lot,” the actor remarked, offering a pointed but restrained response to the controversy.
Explaining why he returned for the second season ofBindiya Ke Bahubali, Shorey credited the strong script by Raj Amit Kumar and the exceptional ensemble cast. He also spoke warmly about working once again with longtime collaborator and friend Saurabh Shukla, calling the experience a joy and a blessing.
Known for being selective about his projects, Shorey said he chooses better roles when options are available, and sometimes opts to wait rather than accept work that doesn’t excite him. He stressed that actors are not always in a position to be demanding, as choices depend on the kind of work being offered.
Looking ahead, Shorey expressed hope thatBindiya Ke Bahubali Season 2will surpass the first season in viewership. Fans also have more to look forward to, as the actor is set to return inKhosla Ka Ghosla 2, alongside Boman Irani, Vinay Pathak and other original cast members, though he is keeping details under wraps for now.
