On paper,Stealappears tailor-made for Prime Video: a large-scale financial crime, ordinary professionals caught in extraordinary circumstances, and Sophie Turner stepping into a grittier phase of her post–Game of Thronescareer. In execution, however, the six-episode series struggles to match its ambition with narrative control.
Turner plays Zara, a mid-level employee at a London pension fund whose ordinary workday collapses into chaos after a staggering £4 billion theft shakes the institution. What begins as a conventional heist drama soon pivots toward psychological territory, exploring paranoia, moral compromise, and the ripple effects of white-collar crime. The premise is timely and intriguing, hinting at corporate rot beneath polished surfaces.
Turner is undeniably the show’s strongest asset. She brings vulnerability and restraint to Zara, grounding the character’s confusion, fear, and gradual emotional hardening. When the series slows down and allows her performance room to breathe,Stealbriefly finds its footing. Even when the writing falters, Turner remains a convincing emotional anchor.
The trouble lies in the storytelling momentum. After an urgent opening, the narrative loses focus once the central heist has unfolded. Multiple subplots involving investigators, corporate power plays, and shadowy conspiracies are introduced but rarely given enough depth. Supporting characters feel thinly sketched, and motivations often remain unclear, making it difficult to fully grasp what is truly at stake.
Pacing further undermines the tension. Episodes swing between sharp, gripping moments and extended stretches that feel over-explained yet emotionally flat. For a thriller dealing with billions of pounds and institutional power,Stealrarely feels as dangerous or incisive as it wants to be.
Visually, the series is competent rather than striking. London’s corporate spaces are depicted with a cold, polished aesthetic that fits the material, but the direction plays things safely, missing opportunities to elevate the suspense.
Ultimately,Stealis a watchable but frustrating thriller. Its premise is strong and its lead performance compelling, yet uneven writing and overcrowded plotting stop it from becoming the taut, high-stakes drama it aims to be. A sharper script and tighter focus could have transformed it into something far more memorable. All six episodes ofStealare now streaming on Prime Video.
