Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday offered prayers at theSomnath Templein Gujarat and participated in rituals marking theSomnath Swabhiman Parv, commemorating1,000 years since Mahmud of Ghazni’s invasionof the historic shrine in 1026.
During the visit, the Prime Minister joined the chanting of the‘Omkar Mantra’and special prayers. He also witnessed amega drone showfeaturing nearly3,000 dronescreating thematic formations, including images of Lord Shiva, a shivling, and a 3D depiction of the Somnath temple, making it one of the largest drone shows near a temple in India.
Gujarat Chief MinisterBhupendra Pateland Deputy Chief MinisterHarsh Sanghaviwere also present. TheSomnath Swabhiman Parvbegan onJanuary 8and will conclude onJanuary 11.
As part of histhree-day Gujarat visit, PM Modi will attend multiple events, including theVibrant Gujarat Regional Conference. On Sunday, he is scheduled to take part in the‘Shaurya Yatra’, a ceremonial procession with108 horseshonoring those who defended the temple, followed by prayers and a public function at the temple.
Despite repeated attempts to destroy it over centuries, theSomnath Templestands today as a symbol ofresilience, faith, and national pride. The Prime Minister’s participation reflects India’s enduring cultural heritage and his commitment to celebrating the nation’s spiritual and historical legacy.
