Heavy crowds gathered at several petrol pumps inMalkangiridistrict as residents rushed to fill petrol and diesel amid fears of a possible price hike following the recent increase inLiquefied Petroleum Gascylinder prices and tensions in the Middle East.

Long queues were seen at fuel stations across the district, particularly in the Malkangiri sadar subdivision, as people hurried to refuel their vehicles fearing that petrol and diesel supplies might soon run out. The rush reportedly began on Friday night after rumours circulated that fuel stocks were running low due to the ongoing war situation.

The rumours triggered panic buying at several petrol pumps, prompting authorities to intervene and urge the public not to believe unverified information. Officials clarified that there is adequate fuel stock available and there is no shortage expected.

Experts explained that petrol is usually supplied to Malkangiri from the depot inJharsuguda. However, due to major maintenance work at the depot, fuel is currently being transported fromBalasore,Paradip, andJatani.

Since these locations are farther away, transportation time and costs have increased slightly, leading to minor delays in fuel supply at some petrol pumps. Officials clarified that the situation is not related to any international conflict and assured residents that regular supply will continue.

Authorities have urged people to remain calm and avoid panic buying, stating that there is no risk of a fuel shortage in the region.
