In a major drug bust on Friday, enforcement teams from Jaleswar and Bhograi seized brown sugar worth Rs 16.5 lakh and arrested a local youth, Vijay Kumar Sahu, from Sanateghari village in Bhograi block. Authorities recovered 165 grams of brown sugar, a motorcycle, and Rs 1,070 in cash from him while he was allegedly attempting to sell the narcotic.
The arrest followed a tip-off received around midnight, prompting the teams to set up a carefully planned trap. The operation, described as ‘film-style’ by officials, ensured Sahu was apprehended without incident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the brown sugar may have been sourced from West Bengal. Authorities are probing the case to trace the supply chain and identify any accomplices, while also examining whether the accused has prior links to similar crimes. Officials have assured strict action against anyone connected to the case and urged the public to report any suspicious drug-related activities. The seizure is being hailed as a significant success in curbing the illegal narcotics trade in Balasore district.
