A major accident occurred on Sunday in Khalarda village under Sadar police limits in Cuttack district, Odisha, after a powerful explosion during illegal firecracker manufacturing claimed the life of one person.
According to preliminary reports, the blast took place inside a house where firecrackers were being prepared. The explosion was so intense that it tore off the asbestos roof and severely damaged the structure. The deceased is believed to have been a worker involved in the firecracker preparation. Locals reported hearing a loud explosion, which caused widespread panic in the area. Police and fire services rushed to the site to carry out rescue and safety operations.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the explosion and whether safety regulations were violated. No comments have been received yet from the victim’s family or local police.
The incident echoes a similar firecracker-related accident on January 15 in Rayagada district during Bhogi Podi festival preparations, where a blast inside a house caused serious injuries. One victim lost an eye, while another, Havildar Krushna Chandra Bag, sustained critical injuries to his palm. Several of the severely injured were shifted to Visakhapatnam for advanced medical care, highlighting the dangers of unsafe firecracker handling.
