In a move to enforce discipline and improve public trust in the administration, the Odisha government on Tuesday issued strict guidelines warning revenue and tehsil office staff against consuming tobacco, paan, gutkha, cigarettes or any other intoxicating substances within office premises.
According to official sources, the directive applies to all officials and employees working at the state headquarters, district offices and tehsil offices. Any violation of the instructions will invite disciplinary action.
The guidelines were issued by Dr Arabinda Padhee shortly after he assumed charge as Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department. Emphasising the need for a more people-centric revenue administration, Dr Padhee stressed discipline, professionalism and sensitivity towards the public.
As part of the new measures, all officers and staff have also been directed to wear handloom attire every Friday to promote local traditions and support indigenous industries.
Dr Padhee highlighted the importance of honesty and professional integrity and directed officials to take prompt and effective steps to strengthen public confidence in the system. He also reiterated the department’s ‘zero-tolerance’ policy against corruption, warning of strict action not only against corrupt officials but also against those who facilitate or support such practices.
In total, at least 10 guidelines have been issued to officials and subordinate staff through a circular, seeking their cooperation in implementing the reforms.
