The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) is set to roll out in Odisha with Keonjhar district chosen for the pilot phase, as announced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi during a review of the Health Department’s initiatives. The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed the decision on Wednesday.
The mission aims to digitally integrate major healthcare services, including appointments, referrals, bookings, and follow-ups, through multiple digital platforms. This transformation is expected to significantly cut down waiting times for patients and improve overall utilisation of healthcare infrastructure across the district. Following an assessment of the pilot’s success, the State government plans to expand the programme statewide.
As part of broader healthcare strengthening measures, the Chief Minister also approved the introduction of Diplomate of National Board (DNB) courses at district headquarters hospitals to upgrade doctors' clinical skills and support specialization training.
Clarifying policy on traditional healthcare systems, CM Majhi stated that AYUSH doctors must prescribe only Ayurvedic medicines and refrain from prescribing allopathic drugs. To reinforce AYUSH services, he has directed that Ayurvedic and Homeopathic medicines be made readily available at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to ensure accessible traditional healthcare.
The review meeting also focused on additional measures to upgrade medical infrastructure and enhance service delivery across the state.
