Under the Purvodaya initiative, the Odisha government has announced major tourism development plans in the Budget 2026-27 to promote eco-tourism, cultural heritage, and sustainable growth. These initiatives aim to strengthen Odisha’s position as a leading national and global tourism destination.
A key focus area is eco-tourism, including turtle conservation trails along Odisha’s coastline. These trails will combine tourism with environmental protection while supporting local communities and promoting nature-based experiences.
The ambitious Shamuka Project in Puri, spread over 1515 acres, will create a world-class coastal tourism hub featuring premium beach infrastructure, cultural attractions, and modern facilities. The project will also include a World Tourism Centre to host global tourism events and research activities.
The government is also investing ₹99 crore to develop Hirakud into a major tourism destination, covering the dam area, wildlife sanctuary, and nearby islands. Additionally, eco-restoration work at Chilika Lagoon will protect its ecosystem and strengthen its role as a major eco-tourism attraction.
To promote cultural tourism, a world-class museum will be built in Bhubaneswar, and the Mayurbhanj Chhau Academy will be established to preserve Odisha’s traditional dance heritage.
These initiatives reflect the state’s long-term vision to promote sustainable tourism, economic growth, and global recognition.
