The Odisha government has announced major healthcare initiatives in the Budget 2026-27 to improve medical infrastructure and ensure quality healthcare access for all citizens. With the guiding vision of universal health coverage, the government has allocated ₹23,182 crore for the Health and Family Welfare sector, highlighting its commitment to public health.
A key focus of the budget is expanding healthcare capacity by adding 5,000 new IPD beds across medical colleges, district hospitals, and community health centres. This expansion aims to reduce patient load and improve treatment access.
A major development includes the establishment of a new 1,800-bed facility at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, which will significantly enhance specialized healthcare services in the state.
To strengthen critical care services, the government will install 1,000 advanced ICU beds equipped with ventilators and centralized monitoring systems, along with 500 High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds for intensive patient care.
The government will also recruit doctors, nurses, and technicians and provide modern medical equipment, including dialysis units. These initiatives aim to improve emergency response, reduce hospital congestion, and ensure affordable and quality healthcare for people across Odisha.
