In a daring daylight robbery, six armed miscreants looted gold ornaments worth over Rs 5 crore and cash of Rs 5 lakh from the Bank of Maharashtra branch in Barbil, Keonjhar district, on Monday. The suspects, arriving on five motorcycles, initially entered the bank posing as customers before brandishing firearms and threatening staff at gunpoint.

Within minutes, the robbers decamped with a large quantity of gold jewellery and cash, fleeing the scene on their motorcycles and creating panic among locals. Bank operations were immediately halted following the theft.

Barbil police arrived promptly after being alerted and have launched a full-scale investigation. Security has been tightened in the area, and officials are examining CCTV footage and other technical evidence to trace the culprits. No official comments have yet been released by the police or bank authorities.
