Norwegian ambassador Mona Juul resigned on Sunday after being suspended earlier this week over revelations of her ties to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said Juul’s actions had undermined the trust required for her diplomatic role, making it impossible for her to continue in office.
Juul, a former junior minister and a key figure in Norway’s diplomatic history, previously served as ambassador to Israel, the UK and the United Nations. Her resignation is part of a broader European fallout following the release of extensive US government files detailing Epstein’s connections. The controversy has also prompted a review of Norwegian government grants to the International Peace Institute, once headed by Juul’s husband, Terje Roed-Larsen, himself a prominent diplomat linked to the Oslo peace process.
