NHAI Achieves 4 Guinness World Records on Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has achieved a landmark milestone in infrastructure development by setting four Guinness World Records during the construction of the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor under NH-544G.

The record-breaking feat was accomplished in partnership with project concessionaire M/s Rajpath Infracon Private Limited, showcasing exceptional engineering expertise and large-scale execution efficiency on a six-lane national highway project.

Record-Breaking Achievements

On January 6, 2026, NHAI set two global records near Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh:

  • The longest continuous laying of bituminous concrete—28.89 lane kilometres completed within 24 hours.

  • The highest quantity of bituminous concrete laid continuously in a single day—10,655 metric tonnes.

Both achievements marked a first worldwide on a six-lane highway project.

Building on this momentum, two additional Guinness World Records were established on January 11, 2026:

  • Continuous laying of 57,500 metric tonnes of bituminous concrete.

  • Uninterrupted paving of 156 lane kilometres, equivalent to a three-lane-wide, 52-kilometre stretch, surpassing the previous world record of 84.4 lane kilometres.

These milestones were achieved across Package-2 and Package-3 of the corridor.

Advanced Technology and Execution

The success was made possible through advanced construction technology and large-scale machinery, including multiple hot mix plants, pavers, rollers, and a fleet of tippers. The project adhered to strict quality control protocols, with technical oversight from premier institutions such as IIT Bombay and support from original equipment manufacturers, ensuring global standards of quality and safety.

Corridor Overview

The 343-kilometre, access-controlled Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor is being developed as a six-lane highway designed for high-speed, safe travel. Key features include:

  • 17 interchanges

  • 10 wayside amenities

  • A 5.3-kilometre-long tunnel

  • Forest stretches spanning approximately 21 kilometres

Once completed, the corridor will reduce travel distance between Bengaluru and Vijayawada by nearly 100 kilometres, cutting journey time from around 12 hours to eight hours. The project will enhance connectivity between the Rayalaseema region and coastal Andhra Pradesh, while improving access to the Koparthy Industrial Node.

Driving Economic Growth

These Guinness World Records highlight NHAI’s commitment to building world-class highway infrastructure. The project aligns with the Government of India’s vision of creating safe, efficient, and globally benchmarked transport corridors to boost economic growth and regional development.
