Open Drain in Bhubaneswar Claims Life, Civic Negligence Under Scrutiny

In a tragic incident highlighting alleged civic negligence, an open drain in Bhubaneswar claimed another life on Thursday. A man reportedly fell into an uncovered drain in the Salia Sahi area, raising public outrage over safety and infrastructure maintenance.

The deceased, identified as Sinu Gagrai, a resident of Salia Sahi, reportedly slipped into the drain, sustaining severe head injuries. Locals rushed him to Capital Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The drain, dug by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) as part of a road construction project, was allegedly left open without barricades or warning signs, endangering pedestrians. Eyewitnesses and residents claimed repeated complaints had been ignored and cited poor lighting as a contributing factor.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the dangers of uncovered drains and unsafe construction practices in the city, which have caused multiple accidents in the past. Residents have demanded accountability and immediate measures from the BMC to prevent future tragedies.
