The Middle East has once again become the center of global geopolitical tension following reports of a major Israeli military strike on Iran, allegedly supported by the United States. The development has drawn international attention, particularly because it occurred shortly after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his official visit to Israel.
During his two-day visit beginning February 25, Prime Minister Modi was warmly received at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He also addressed the Israeli Parliament in Jerusalem — becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so — and reiterated India’s commitment to peace, dialogue, stability, and global cooperation. Modi emphasized that India views the world as one family and stands for peaceful resolution of conflicts.
However, within 48 hours of his return to India on February 26, Israel reportedly launched a large-scale military operation targeting Iran on February 28. According to investigative reports by the U.S.-based outlet Axios, the attack had been under consideration for at least a week, with operational and intelligence factors influencing its timing.
The report suggests that U.S. leadership had weighed diplomatic options before ultimately supporting military action. It also claims that strategic messaging may have been used to create the impression that an attack was unlikely — possibly to reduce defensive preparations.
The situation has intensified speculation about whether the strike was purely military or part of a broader diplomatic and strategic maneuver. While India has historically maintained a balanced diplomatic approach in the region, the proximity of Modi’s visit to the reported military escalation has prompted political and strategic discussions internationally.
As tensions rise, global leaders continue to call for restraint and protection of civilians, particularly expatriate communities in the region, including Indian nationals.
