A fire broke out at the Ama Bus depot in Patia, Bhubaneswar, on Sunday when an electric vehicle (EV) bus caught fire during charging, causing panic among locals. Two fire teams quickly responded and brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby buses.
No casualties were reported, though thick smoke and flames created a tense situation. Preliminary reports suggest a short circuit during charging may have triggered the fire, according to the bus driver. Officials have confirmed that the exact cause is still under investigation.
This incident comes just a day after another Ama Bus caught fire near Kalinga Studio Square, again with no injuries, raising concerns about EV safety protocols and maintenance standards in the city.
“We reached the spot immediately after receiving the alert. Preliminary investigation suggests the bus caught fire due to overheating while on charge. The fire has now been fully extinguished. There are no injuries or fatalities, and the situation is under control,” said Fire Officer Biplab Kumar Jena.
