Panic gripped several areas of Cuttack on Tuesday after a powerful explosion was heard from the Kathajodi riverbed near Gopalpur. The blast reportedly occurred while police were disposing of seized firecrackers in the riverbed.
According to reports, officials had taken the confiscated firecrackers to the riverbank to destroy them when a sudden and loud explosion took place. The intense sound startled residents in nearby localities, prompting many people to rush out of their homes to find out what had happened.
Residents from areas around Gopalpur and even from the opposite side of the river, including Khannagar and Badambadi, reported hearing the explosion clearly. Some locals alleged that the impact of the blast was so strong that it caused houses to shake and even cracked glass window panes in a few homes.
The incident has sparked resentment among residents, who questioned the decision to destroy explosive materials near residential zones. Many locals expressed concern that such activities could pose serious risks to public safety in densely populated areas.
