An intense gun battle broke out between Maoists and security personnel in the Karada forest near Nadabadi village in Kandhamal district of Odisha on Sunday. The exchange of fire lasted for nearly one and a half hours after security forces launched an operation based on intelligence inputs about Maoist presence.
The Special Operations Group (SOG) had initiated a combing and search operation after receiving reports that around 30 Maoists were hiding in the forest. During the operation, Maoists reportedly opened fire, prompting retaliation from security personnel.
Initial reports suggest that several Maoists were killed, while others were injured or fled the area. However, officials have not yet confirmed the exact number of casualties.
Security forces are continuing combing operations to locate remaining Maoists and secure the region. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate Maoist activity and strengthen security in affected areas.
