Severe Frost Sweeps Koida in Odisha as Temperatures Dip Below 5°C

Koida in Odisha’s Sundargarh district has witnessed severe frost for the second consecutive day, with night temperatures falling below 5°C. The unusual cold spell has disrupted daily life, coating vehicles, rooftops and open grounds with a visible layer of ice.

Severe frost conditions have grippedKoidainSundargarh districtfor the second straight day, following a sustained drop in night-time temperatures to below5 degrees Celsius. The prolonged cold spell has caused dew to freeze into ice during night hours, an unusual phenomenon for the region.

Frost blankets Koida region

Residents reported that large parts of Koida appeared covered in a white frost layer early in the morning. Ice accumulation was clearly visible on open grounds, rooftops and parked vehicles, underlining the severity of the cold wave currently affecting the area.

New Garden Colony sees highest frost

Among the worst-affected areas,New Garden Colonyrecorded the highest frost intensity. Similar conditions were reported fromKoida town, Kalta, Malda and Tensa, indicating that the frost spread across most parts of the Koida block.

Several vehicles parked in open spaces were found coated with a thin but distinct layer of ice, reflecting the sharp fall in night-time temperatures.

Cold disrupts daily life

The persistent cold over the last three days has disrupted daily routines, especially during early morning hours. Residents reported difficulty in commuting, school drop-offs and outdoor work due to the biting chill.

A local resident said,“The cold has been intense, especially in the mornings. It has affected our daily activities, but at the same time, many are fascinated by the frost, which we rarely see here.”

No damage reported so far

Authorities confirmed thatno damage to property or loss of lifehas been reported yet. However, concerns remain for people engaged in outdoor work. Locals and officials have advised residents to take precautions during early mornings and late nights as the cold spell continues.
