Kerala BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekar on Thursday ridiculed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s announcement that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) aims to win 110 seats in the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections. Reacting to the claim, Chandrasekar sarcastically remarked that even the “captain of the Titanic wanted to launch a new ship.”
The comment followed a high-level meeting convened by Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram with Cabinet ministers to review preparations for the upcoming polls. During the nearly three-hour meeting, the Chief Minister outlined an aggressive election strategy for the next two months, focusing on showcasing development projects, government achievements, and strengthening the party’s social media outreach.
The Kerala Legislative Assembly election, scheduled before May 2026, will determine all 140 seats, with 71 needed for a majority. The current LDF government, which won 99 seats in the 2021 elections, is aiming to improve its performance in the next polls.
