Karan Johar Supports Dhurandhar’s Political Themes, Says Cinema Should Embrace Debate

Karan Johar spoke about the political themes in Dhurandhar, stating that he wasn’t offended by the film’s ideology and appreciated its cinematic execution.

Filmmaker Karan Johar has praisedDhurandharfor its cinematic craft while addressing the debates around the film’s political themes. During an interaction on IIMUN’s YouTube channel, Johar described the Ranveer Singh starrer as “technically strong” and appreciated director Aditya Dhar’s storytelling, including the film’s chapter-based structure and nuanced portrayal of politics.

“I unabashedly lovedDhurandhar. I admired the craft, the internal gaze, and how it spoke about politics in its own way,” Johar said, adding that he was not offended by any ideological stance in the film. He emphasized that cinema should allow audiences to agree or disagree with its political perspectives, highlighting the importance of appreciating films as a form of art.

Earlier, Hrithik Roshan also commented onDhurandhar, praising its storytelling while expressing disagreement with its politics. The spy thriller follows Ranveer Singh as Indian intelligence officer Hamza Ali Mazhari, with Akshaye Khanna as gangster Rehman Dakait, Arjun Rampal as ISI chief, and R Madhavan as IB Director Ajay Sanyal. The second part of the film is set to release on March 19.
