Amid growing concerns over jaundice cases reported in schools, the Odisha government on Tuesday placed all District Education Officers (DEOs) across the state on high alert to prevent any possible spread and ensure swift administrative response wherever required.
School and Mass Education (S&ME) Minister Nityananda Gond said the potential transmission of jaundice on school campuses is a serious issue and assured that the state is fully prepared to take all necessary preventive and corrective measures. He added that assistance from the Health Department would be sought without hesitation if the situation demands.
The minister stressed the need to identify the source of the infection, noting that investigations are already underway. In Dhenkanal district’s Gondia block, two students have tested positive for jaundice and are currently undergoing medical treatment.
Reiterating the government’s seriousness, Gond said once the root cause is established, steps such as installing water purification systems, including Aquaguard units, will be taken. Authorities will also review and implement additional measures required in schools to prevent further cases.
“Jaundice cases in some schools are certainly a cause for concern. The source of the infection must be identified, and every effort will be made to stop its spread. The affected students are receiving treatment, and preventive steps are being taken,” the minister said, adding that the matter involving students is being handled with utmost priority.
